Things I Like: Johnny Mo (Kill Bill)

Gordon Liu as Johnny Mo in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill franchise

Johnny Mo is a minor antagonist in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill franchise. He’s played by martial arts legend Gordon Liu, who also portrayed Master Pai Mei in Kill Bill Vol. 2. I had no idea he was actually the inspiration for Liu Kang in the Mortal Kombat video game series.

In the Kill Bill series, Johnny Mo is the leader of the Crazy 88—the main gang that works for O-Ren Ishii. He never seemed as prominent or fearsome as Gogo Yubari, but he definitely knew how to fight.

While his sword duel with Beatrix Kiddo wasn’t the most memorable battle in the movie, he’s undeniably a beast in terms of speed and power.

Eventually, the Bride slices off one of his major limbs—a moment that looks just as painful as his facial expression suggests.

He then falls off the railing and lands in a small pond in that weird Japanese restaurant. Presumably, he doesn’t survive—or at least that’s how I remember it.
