Things I Like: The Simpsons: Road Rage (GC/XB/PS2)

The Simpsons Road Rage was one of the first video games I ever bought for my Nintendo GameCube, though it was also available on the PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox. I had never played Crazy Taxi before this, but I heard Road Rage was considered a shameless clone. Regardless, I loved it.

At the time, this was the best-looking Simpsons game to date. Even better, the original cast from the show returned to voice all the beloved characters.

The game includes a small storyline: Mr. Burns comes up with a scheme to replace public transit with nuclear-powered buses—ones that emit a dangerously high level of radiation.

At first, poor Hans Moleman is the only rider, but the plan quickly backfires. The residents of Springfield, fearing for their lives, create their own makeshift taxi service to fight back against Mr. Burns and his greedy, capitalist ambitions.

The gameplay is very similar to Crazy Taxi, featuring almost the exact same mechanics. The big difference? Everything is re-skinned with Simpsons charm: iconic characters, Springfield locations, and recognizable vehicles from the show.

It was genuinely fun to see all the characters interact in weird combinations. I played The Simpsons Road Rage way longer than I probably should have. I’ll admit that hearing the same voice lines over and over again got a bit annoying after a while, but it never stopped me from coming back.

The game could be a bit buggy at times, but I had a lot of fun exploring the different areas of Springfield and driving the various vehicles. It also had a really fun multiplayer feature, which led to some intense, hilarious battles between me and my brother—we’d yell, laugh, and compete for hours.

It’s definitely not a perfect game, but honestly, it’s my favorite video game based on The Simpsons. While I know a lot of people loved The Simpsons: Hit & Run—and I did too—I’ve always preferred Road Rage. It’s often criticized or overlooked, but to me, it’s an underrated gem. And honestly? I thought Crazy Taxi was a terrible game compared to this one.

I am sure I played this one and enjoyed it. I remember playing Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube. I loved my Gamecube so much 😀
