Things I Like: Lois Lane (Original Superman Movies)

Margot Kidder as Lois Lane Original Superman Movies DC comics Warner Bros Margot Kidder

Lois Lane is an essential part of any Superman story, unless it’s a prequel like Smallville. Margot Kidder gave a strong performance as Superman’s girlfriend, but I prefer Rachel Brosnahan’s fresh take in the new DCU. That said, Amy Adams was my least favorite portrayal, mainly because her reddish hair didn’t quite feel like Lois Lane to me.

In the original films, Lois embodies the classic version of the character: a high-powered reporter at the Daily Planet, sharp and ambitious, yet not particularly impressed with Clark Kent… at least at first.

She’s also hilariously oblivious to the fact that Clark is actually her Kryptonian almost-boyfriend. Even during a robbery, Superman pulls off a clever cover-up to protect his identity from her.

I’d nearly forgotten she dies at one point, prompting Superman to spin the Earth backward to reverse time. Because, of course, that’s exactly how time travel works, lol.

Ultimately, she gets her happy ending when Superman defeats General Zod and his henchmen. Technically, she appears in the third and fourth movies too if I remember correctly, but I like to pretend those don’t exist. And honestly, you probably should as well. They’re just plain awful.

  1. I can’t wait to see the new one. I love Rachel Brosnahan and I loved Margot Kidder in the original. There was finally some depth and quirkiness to the character.
