Things I Hate: Kilik (Soul Calibur II)

Kilik is one of my most disliked characters in Soul Calibur II. He’s definitely not the worst, and he is a well-designed character, so I really want to like him more than I actually do.

He is actually one of the Korean characters, which is a little surprising considering how much Japan and Korea often clash culturally. He uses a twin-bladed staff, but you might as well just call it a bo staff.

This gives him an incredibly long range, at least with certain moves. If you were just playing with a friend who didn’t know how to play the game either, you could actually do pretty well with him, gradually chipping away at your opponent’s health.

And he does have some impressive techniques if you know how to use them. He has one move where he can recover and sweep an opponent off their feet, sometimes resulting in a ring-out.

But honestly, in terms of a fair one-on-one match using a full variety of moves, I absolutely struggled with him. He isn’t terrible, but there are simply far better characters in the game.

The Japanese and Koreans are polite and controlled. It’s fascinating to see their darker sides come out in games.
