Things I Like: Ivy (Soul Calibur II)

Ivy Valentine is one of my favorite characters in the Soul Calibur series, and her appearance in Soul Calibur II is mostly the same as in her other games. I’m not even sure if she’s supposed to be a villain, but she certainly dresses like one, especially in her most risqué outfit.

With her purple teddy and very dominant-seeming personality, my 14-year-old self knew I liked this very much, lol. My 2002 self would have loved to be in Cassandra’s place here.

All that said, this is definitely my least favorite costume for Ivy. But I always thought it was cool that her sword could turn into a whip of sorts, though this style is one of the hardest to master in the whole game.

Ivy is not exactly the easiest character to just pick up and play. She has a very particular style, and you really have to learn her moves very well. I recently replayed Soul Calibur II on my Nintendo Switch after many years and realized how much I’d forgotten about playing as Ivy.

But she’s still one of my favorites. She isn’t technically in my top five when it comes to picking a character to play, but she’s definitely got a positive reputation in my book. It doesn’t surprise me that she has never been cut from the series since her introduction in Soul Calibur.
