Nightmare is one of the most iconic characters in the Soul Calibur series, technically serving as one of the main antagonists. This is the last game where Nightmare was officially tied to Siegfried alone, but Soul Edge created him and used Siegfried’s body as its vessel.

He returns in Soul Calibur II, however, looking much like he did in the first game: a big armored character with a humongous sword. Much like Astaroth, he’s more about power than he is speed or mobility.

There’s even one skin where Siegfried isn’t pure and good like he was supposed to be in the original Soul Edge/Blade game, but you get to see that he still is mostly himself under all that armor.

So out of all the evil male characters in the game, Nightmare is definitely my favorite, though I would not rank him among the top seven fighters. I don’t do as well with the more powerful yet heavy characters as I should.

He’s a wonderful character with a great moveset, but I’m very far from mastering him in any game in the series. Still, it’s really hard to hate the main bad guy of the whole series, technically.
