Things I Like: Tatsu Yamashiro/Katana (DCEU)

Tatsu Yamashiro, better known as Katana, was one of the major characters in the first Suicide Squad film in the DC Extended Universe. She’s a very cool character, but since the overall movie universe wasn’t well planned, she literally only had one movie to shine.

Like Rick Flag, she’s the only other member of the team who is there on a voluntary basis. I believe she was meant to serve as his personal bodyguard, and she’s definitely worth whatever they’re paying her.

I wasn’t familiar with her from the comics or the cartoon shows, so she was completely new to me. A Japanese beauty wearing a cool mask, she wields a katana that supposedly traps the souls of its victims. That’s pretty horrifying when you think about it.

Unfortunately, many of the movie’s scenes are very dark, and her best fights are often hard to see through smoke or involve enemies that aren’t particularly interesting.

She does manage to survive the battle against Enchantress, but James Gunn chose not to bring her back for the sequel. And with the DCEU officially canceled, it may be years before Katana graces the silver screen again… if she ever does.
