Things I Like: Null (Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom)

Null in The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom Final Boss Nintendo

Null is the final boss and main antagonist of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, even though the game does not reveal its true form until near the very end. While I did like Null as an antagonist, I have to admit I was a little disappointed that it was not the infamous Ganon himself.

Like most final bosses, especially in Nintendo games, Null has multiple forms. Thankfully, Link fights alongside you for most of the battle. And thank goodness he does not have a traditional health bar you have to manage, because that would have made the fight much more stressful. As it stands, he is nothing but helpful during the encounter.

The Blue Lynel was my most valuable Echo in this battle, and if you did not unlock it earlier, you really missed out. It is by far the strongest Echo in the game and incredibly useful. Even so, there were moments when Null gained the upper hand and could temporarily neutralize my Blue Lynel as a threat.

There is also a brief shift where you fight Null underwater for some reason. That segment actually reminded me a lot of recent Kirby final battles with how chaotic and over the top it felt.

The final phase is similar to the first, just much more intense. I had a solid strategy, relied heavily on my Echoes, and made sure to stock up on health potions and hearts beforehand. It was not exactly a cakewalk, but I never felt like I was close to dying.

Defeating this evil being that wanted to erase all existence was pretty satisfying. The funny thing is, in almost every Zelda game I complain that it is predictable when Ganon is the final boss. This time they did something different, and I still found myself wishing for him. I guess that makes me a bit of a hypocrite.
