Impa is one of the most important figures connected to the Hylian royal family, even though she is not part of it. In many Zelda games, Impa serves as a caretaker or mentor to Princess Zelda, and this version is no different. Like most recent portrayals of the character, she is quite elderly in Echoes of Wisdom.

She is a kind and loyal old woman who clearly cares deeply for her princess, and presumably for the king as well. However, her Sheikah heritage does not play a major role in this particular story.

When the Echo clones take over Hyrule Castle, Impa and Princess Zelda remain the only real leadership left. Impa is also the one who helps Zelda escape after she is thrown into jail by soldiers who believe the false King of Hyrule is the real monarch. Strangely, none of those officers seem to question why the king would suddenly imprison his own daughter without explanation.

Even though Impa cannot do much directly to help Zelda during the adventure, it is always clear that she genuinely cares about her. Fortunately, the game gives us several moments between the two characters instead of limiting their interaction to just the beginning and the ending.

Unsurprisingly, Impa survives the events of the game and is there to congratulate Zelda and Link after they defeat Null. Still, as much as I like this version of the character, she does not quite compare to my personal favorite version of Impa from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
