Our Visit To Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site (Charleston SC)

Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site Charleston South Carolina USA West Ashley

Charleston Landing Side is a state park in Charleston, South Carolina, and it’s the original spot where English settlers landed when they first arrived in the area. It is located in the West Ashley section of Charleston, which might be the least interesting part depending on what you’re looking for. I’m pretty sure I’ve been there as a teenager, but I couldn’t say for certain.

Their computer system was hindered by the lack of internet at the time, so we actually got in for free. They were still able to take coins, though, so Alex could buy a lollipop for himself. He doesn’t like every candy in existence, but lollipops are one of his favorites, along with gummy bears.

The park is pretty huge, and there is a lot of history there. But I had to hold Alex with me the entire time, and it was a little difficult to enjoy the history and everything else while keeping an eye on him.

The best part of the park is what they call their Animal Forest, which is essentially a small free zoo. The kids had a good time seeing all the animals. Compared to a real zoo, it is a little lackluster, but it was fun for them.

Overall, we had a pretty good time. Lily actually got herself in trouble that morning for refusing to leave the beach house, so after we were done she did not get anything from the gift shop. Alex, on the other hand, was in good standing, so he walked out with a giant snake that Mommy bought for him. Hopefully that serves as a lesson, but my stepdaughter unfortunately thinks all attention is good attention, whether it is positive or negative.

  2. She’s just at that age where she’s testing her boundaries. We all have days where we’re a bit moody, but she’ll be fine. It does look like a neat place to explore, and even better that it was free for you that day.
