Behemoth is technically a boss in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but it’s more of a surprise bonus boss than part of the main lineup. After defeating Omega Griever, this guy suddenly showed up, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t because I hadn’t been to the area before. I just happened to go to the wrong place at the wrong time.

So this demonic-looking thing decides to pick a fight with Samus, who was just minding her own business. It kind of sucks that Nintendo’s most famous bounty hunter can’t go anywhere without something immediately seeing her and deciding she has to die. If we actually got to see more of Samus’s personality, I’m sure she’d be at least a little jaded by this point.

It’s been a little while since I played this boss battle, so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I remember fire being its main power. I was actually surprised by how much damage it dealt, especially since I had stocked up on a lot of Energy Tanks. It became abundantly clear that I needed to take this guy seriously.

As your eyes will probably tell you, you need to use your Ice Blast ability to counter its fire attacks. After that, I think the fight became a little easier, although I do vaguely remember running low on ammo and having to find a way to replenish my ice power.

But honestly, I didn’t really like this boss battle for the most part. It’s not particularly fun or engaging, and it appears so randomly that you don’t really expect it. I guess there were worse bosses in the game, but this one kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I can’t even remember if there was any real reward for beating it, like an Energy Tank or a weapon upgrade, but I think the best reward was simply seeing this thing dead.
