My Favorite Martian (1999 Film) Review

My Favorite Martian 1999 film movie poster Disney Jeff Daniels Christopher Lloyd

Now that I have Disney+, I’ve seen a lot of stuff on the service that I had no idea existed. My Favorite Martian caught my attention because it had Jeff Daniels and Christopher Lloyd, two actors I really enjoy. This film was based on a TV series of the same name, but I have never seen the original TV show.

Jeff Daniels as Tim O'Hara My Favorite Martian 1999 Disney film

The movie focuses on Tim O’Hara, a news producer who has been more unlucky than he is successful. He gets tasked with producing a news broadcast of a space shuttle launch. Something not too unusual for him.

My Favorite Martian brace Channing news reporter Elizabeth Hurley

Except he has a crush on the news reporter, Brace Channing. When he gets carried away, he accidentally tells her something that embarrasses her live on TV. Since her father owns the news station, Tim O’Hara is fired from his job.

My Favorite Martian Martin and Tim at Ace Hardware Jeff Daniels Christopher Lloyd

Things get rather crazy for him when a literal Martian arrived in his life. While the Martian has some of the most advanced technology way ahead of Earth, his social skills are bizarre and sometimes offensive. But the Martian wants to get back to Mars, and Tim is going to need all the luck he can get to send him back.

My Favorite Martian is definitely not my favorite film. It is one of the worst films I’ve seen recently. It’s silly, but not really funny. Despite many big and famous actors, the movie often feels like it was made for TV. The movie just drags on and I was so glad when it was finally over.
