I really hate to say that, because I really wanted to like Isabelle, but I thought she was too weak. I do like her in her main game, which is the Animal Crossing series. Her first game in the series was New Leaf on 3DS, as she served as the villager/mayor’s assistant. She actually has a crush on the mayor (though this is revealed really low-key), and since she still has those feelings regardless of if the villager/mayor is male or female, that technically makes Isabelle one of the few LGBT video game characters.
Anyway, Isabelle’s moves are pretty true from the games, well at best as they can since there’s no violence in Animal Crossing. But everything there makes sense. I will say, her actual smash attacks are kind of weak and terrible for combos.
Her fishing rod is a decent special move though. But if you miss, you often can leave yourself wide open. She can also bury a lloid to rise like a rocket as a trap, and while I was never good with it, I’ve met some talented players online who were.
She also has a good recover. She can easily be knocked off stage due to her being a lightweight, but regardless of how far she falls, her balloons will almost always land her back to safety.
Her Final Smash Dream Town Hall is the same as Villagers, except it’s a town hall instead of a home. It’s decent and I actually rarely missed with this one despite you having to be pretty close to a foe to trap them there.
When Kirby takes Isabelle’s power, he gets the ability to snatch things and put them into a “pocket.”
This can be items and even special attacks. You can throw Link’s boomerang back at him, and even Samus’ laser blast. Not as useful as it should be.
But I just did so poorly online with Isabelle, I felt like a weakling. Even after struggling and struggling, I still couldn’t win many matches. The game ranks you based on how well you do (that way it can match you with similarly skilled players) and hers sunk down to the lowest I’ve ever seen. Who was the weakest opponent using? Another Isabelle. Coincidence? I think not!
