Besides Wonder Woman, the most badass female superhero in the major silver screen movies has been Black Widow. I was kind of surprised they came out with this movie now. As Natasha Romanoff died an irreversible death during Avengers: Endgame. This movie obviously is a prequel and I heard mixed things about it, but what did I think of it?
The film takes place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Natasha Romanoff is on the run and has eluded the American government successfully so far. But with no allies that she can rely on, it may be a matter of time before she’s locked up in prison.
She flees to Budapest in Hungary and runs into her adopted sister. The family reunion will be awkward especially as their fake family only lasted 3 years. The man responsible for shaping both of them into assassins is still up to no good.
But after them is someone more dangerous than Secretary of Defense Ross. It’s a very lethal assassin named Taskmaster who has been given the job of killing them both. A master mimic, Taskmaster can copy fighting styles of many heroes. Black Widow and her “family” are going to have a big challenge.
It is a strange pick to start Phase 4 of the MCU, but Black Widow is an enjoyable film. It’s not the worst of the MCU but far from the best. It might seem like a moot point to make the movie now but it has shown at least two characters I do want to see again in the MCU.
