Video Game History: Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis

Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis Nintendo Gamecube Xbox PS2 boxart

Out of all the iconic DC superheroes, Aquaman has probably gotten the worst treatment of the team. He never got a major movie, he had to share a cartoon, and he’s only had one video game. Yes Aquaman’s only digital adventure was in 2003 for the Gamecube and Xbox. The results were 20,000 injustice leagues under the sea.

Plot Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis Nintendo Gamecube Xbox PS2

For one this is how the story is told in Battle For Atlantis… Ugly comic book panels with no sound. Oh and Aquaman has long hair, a beard, and a claw hand! Who decided this?

Classic Aquaman riding shark

This is Aquaman! A cheesy short-haired, clean shaven, and lame superhero. And he has both hands. You can’t underwater lasso something with a claw hand! Did he lose it in a underwater factory incident?

Swimming Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis Nintendo Gamecube Xbox PS2

So anyway, you get to float around and swim as Aquaman in Atlantis. Randomly bumping into invisible walls while searching for objectives and fighting bad guys. But mostly randomly swimming into invisible walls that make no sense in this underwater city with nobody residing in it.

Superman 64

The swimming reminded many gamers of Superman’s terrible N64 adventure. At least there are no rings huh?

Combat Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis Nintendo Gamecube Xbox PS2

But there still are bad controls, awful combat, cruddy graphics, and an overall terrible package. Sorry Aquaman fans, but this game should be lost in the sea never to be seen again.
