Joust (NES) Review

Joust NES Boxart

Back in the late 90’s was the first time I’ve ever played Joust. We had some kind of arcade re-release disc for PS1, and I remember having a little bit of fun with it. I was too young to have played it in the arcade, but despite it being so old, it stuck in my memory more than most games on that disc did.

I also found out that they made a NES version of Joust, and I wanted to try it out for myself. I know some arcade-to-NES ports ranged from decent to awful, and this one ranks on decent. It’s pretty much how I remember it except maybe a change in graphics.

Joust Nintendo entertainment system

That’s all fine and good, until I remember that Joust is a tad boring. There really is no point to the game except to survive wave after wave of enemies. It was a decent arcade hit, but there’s really nothing that motivates me to keep playing on.

Score: 5 out of 10
