Escanor was my favorite character of the show. Which is funny because we don’t see the Lion Sin of Pride until the series’s true second season.

When we first see him, we see a ordinary man who is a bartender. Without any significant strength or magic, it’s hard to believe that he is the strongest of the Holy Knights. That’s because it’s nighttime.

Once the sun is out, he becomes far more confident and powerful. He’s actually stronger than any member of the Ten Commandments. Easily defeating Galand and Melascula.

My favorite moment was when Estarossa’s Commandment of Love paralyzed any fighter with hatred in their heart. Surprised that Escanor was unaffected, to which Escanor replies “Why should I bear any hatred towards someone who’s obviously weaker than myself? All I feel is pity.” Absolutely badass.

The fight against Estarossa was my favorite of the whole anime.

He gets a little less impressive in the later seasons. But his The One form at high noon is a force to reckon with.

His Sunshine power is really a grace belonging to Mael of the Four Archangels. Since the grace abandoned Mael after he became Estarossa, it chose Escanor after thousands of years. Escanor is saved by a redeemed Mael after losing a fight due to the lack of literal sunshine.

After Mael returns Sunshine to Escanor for the fight against the Demon King, we sadly see Escanor make a sacrifice since Sunshine was killing his human body. But fighting the Demon King as The One Ultimate was pretty sweet.

Before dying, he was finally able to confess his feelings for Merlin. Getting a kiss and lot of respect from her. His death got spoiled to me, but I was still sad to see him go.
