I had no idea what Floor Is Lava was when it came out on Netflix in 2020. But the second season is out and it’s apparently pretty popular.

The show is hosted by Rutledge Wood who I didn’t know beforehand. I hear he was on that Top Gear show I never watched.

The show is obviously a play on the children’s game mixed with a little American ninja warrior and a lot of fake lava. Teams are tasked with escaping a lava filled room as fast as possible.

There are a lot of outrageous and crazy contestants. Many of whom don’t last because you only get one shot of not falling in.

To be honest, I watched season two first and the original run is rather rough and boring. They made the first rooms way too tough and the ending is anticlimactic. Season two is sooo much better.

Though the volcano finale in season two is very flawed. I remember contestants climbing the mountain in Nickelodeon’s Guts and it was so fun. The Netflix volcano is a simple straight path and heavily favors taller contestants especially with upper body strength. Each individual winner only gets about 3,333 dollars and a shared trophy, which is probably the hardest they’ve ever had to earn.
