My wife got me the game for my birthday last year and due to the craziness in my life, it’s taken me a while to complete it. I always enjoyed the Mario Golf games and I was excited for the Nintendo Switch edition.

The actual golfing is pretty darn good. Well designed courses and physics.

What’s not so good are the extra modes. Story mode is boring and speed golf is ridiculously stupid.

Like always, there are plenty of Mario characters to play as.

Including unique super moves to use competitively, but they’re not as fun as you’d think.

What really stinks is the online mode. It offers few choices and only small chunks of actual competition. An absolute waste of time like the online mode of Super Mario Party.

Even if you win, it feels like losing.

I do like the game, but I definitely understand why fans were mixed on it. It does a lot of things right but it’s missing a lot deep down that could have cemented it as one of the greatest golf games ever, but it’s only at par.
