Hunter × Hunter is an anime series I started earlier this year. I recently took more of a break from it than I did for the last two seasons. While the anime is very popular, I haven’t been addicted to it like some otakus.

The season really surprised me as Gon is not even remotely the main character of the season. He’s there but his importance is diminished. Anime shows rarely ever throw this kind of curveball.

Instead its Kurapika that is the main hero of the story.

He wants revenge against the people that murdered his family and clan. To find himself clues, he gets himself a job as a bodyguard for a mafia group. But things go wrong when an auction for the organized criminals turns into a bloodbath.

And we finally get to see the Phantom Troupe, who had been teased and hinted at in the early seasons. I was a bit disappointed by their leader Chrollo Lucilfer. He’s powerful but the way the season goes, you think he would have done more.

And I’m not surprised Hisoka had been one of their members all along. But he was a newbie to the group, and he was the only one that really wasn’t a true member at heart.

I will say that Kurapika really surprised me this season. He went from somewhat formidable to extremely deadly in a very short amount of time. Hopefully he still continues to impress in the later seasons.

The later half of the season is pretty good but I was a bit bored by the first half. Which would make it my least favorite season so far. But the ending to the season was pretty good so after watching another show, I will get back to watching the fourth season.
