Things I Hate: Marik Ishtar (Yu-Gi-Oh)

Marik Ishtar Battle City arc Yu-Gi-Oh anime series Japan

Marik Ishtar was the second main antagonist in the anime series. Not as fun as Maximilian Pegasus, but he was definitely scarier in a way. Unlike Pegasus, he was mostly a baddie you loved to hate.

Unlike Pegasus, he didn’t technically come up with the Battle City competition (as that was Seto Kaiba) but he definitely pulled the strings around it.

He held the Millennium Rod (which if I remember right) was mainly used to control people as he had many puppets in his Rare Hunters gang of minions.

Marik Ishtar controls Strings to fight Yugi with Slifer the Sky Dragon Battle City arc Yu-Gi-Oh anime series Japan

Probably my favorite battle with him is actually the one he wasn’t present physically. He controlled some bald weirdo and fought Yami Yugi with Slifer the Sky Dragon. The way Yugi managed to defeat the Egyptian God card was absolutely amazing.

His god card the Winged Dragon of Ra is actually my least favorite of the three.

But eventually his real self gains control as it was the evil spirit from his item that was mainly at fault and he decides to banish the spirit by forfeiting the match to Yugi.

Which apparently destroyed the spirit and then he is instantly forgiven…
