Yami Yugi was the true star of the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh.

At first, we just think he’s the other personality of the kid Yugi Muto with more confidence and he somehow gets taller.

But no, he’s a spirit that lives in the Millennium Puzzle that somehow has the same hairstyle as the kid that inherited it. Imagine that.

But Yami Yugi was one of the best players of Duel Monsters that ever lived.

While far from his most powerful ally, his personal favorite was the Dark Magician, which many fans had a big soft spot for too.

But Yami Yugi did save the day all the time, even if it was by such a close margin.

Turns out he was a Pharaoh of Egypt back in the day named Atem. And he was personally involved with the real monsters that the game was based on, and the Millennium items that were still being passed around in the modern world.

I never watched the end of the series but I hear that he had to lose the battle against regular Yugi so his soul could finally (after thousands of years) reach the afterlife.
