I’ve gotten into the Bachelor Nation programming as a way to bond with my wife, who has been a fan of the series for quite a number of years. After the whole debacle with the Golden Bachelor Gerry and his super quick divorce, I wasn’t too keen about watching the Golden Bachelorette. But… I ended up doing so anyway. This is a spoiler heavy post, so be warned.

One of the reasons why I wasn’t excited about starting it was Joan Vassos herself. As she left the competition on Golden Bachelor really early on and I almost forgot who she was entirely. She left the race for Gerry’s heart due to a family emergency and somehow got herself a starring season. Imagine that.

So now it’s time for her to pick older gentleman to potentially be her fiance. Most of the guys are 60ish with plenty of different backgrounds and careers. Some of these guys aren’t technically eligible for retirement either.

But what actually convinced me to watch the series was the surprise visit from Joey’s fiancee Kelsey Anderson from the last Bachelor season.

As her father, Mark Anderson enters the competition and he was my favorite. Though, he doesn’t get as far as you think he would. There is a conspiracy theory that he may be the next Golden Bachelor and it’s not a tin foil hat kind of rumor either.

But the reason I don’t really like the season was that it was kind of boring. The Golden Bachelor’s women were much tamer than their younger counterparts and the older Golden Bachelorette’s suitors have almost no drama at all.

And Joan ends up with Chock, which was pretty obvious early on. But bizarrely, the couple does not plan to live together anytime soon. So I kind of see this fizzling out. I wish them the best and a happy life, but my optimism isn’t exactly beaming with hope. Wonderful marriages that started on dating shows have a pathetically low success rate.
