This was far from my favorite film back in the day, but I’ll admit I liked it more than I ever expected—especially considering it’s essentially a big-budget version of a plot that feels like it should belong in a made-for-TV movie. That said, I always had a soft spot for Kirsten Dunst… back then anyway.

I don’t remember much about the film’s plot, but I do recall that Kirsten Dunst played either the leader or a high-ranking member of her school’s cheerleading squad after the former captain graduated.

She soon discovers, to her shock, that her team’s past success was entirely due to the previous captain stealing routines from a predominantly African-American school.

I can’t remember which state the film is set in, but I assume it’s California. Still, why are the schools so heavily segregated, like it’s 1950s Alabama? I get that even today, some schools have high minority populations, but the possibility of an Irish-themed school (the Clovers) having virtually no white students in their crowd or on their team feels a bit unrealistic.

The movie was pretty cheesy and hasn’t aged well, but it’s strange to realize just how big it was back in the early 2000s.
My adult kids love this one
