Things I Like: Stone Mask (Zelda: Majora’s Mask)

The Stone Mask is one of the MANY masks you can find in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and I call it both the most useful and the most useless mask in the entire game.

You obtain the Stone Mask by using the Lens of Truth to locate a random invisible soldier, who then gives it to you.

Visually, it scores a zero on the “pleasantness” scale, but it renders Link invisible to enemies, allowing him to sneak around unhindered.

However, if Link attacks anything while wearing the mask, enemies immediately see through the illusion—making it particularly useless in that moment.

The mask is most useful in the Gerudo Fortress, where it lets Link slip past patrols. In the Nintendo 64 version, though, you can’t acquire the mask until after completing that section, so Nintendo moved the invisible soldier to an earlier spot in the game design to make the mask’s utility more logical.
