The Keaton Mask is one of the many masks you can find in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for the N64. It’s far from the most useful mask in the game, but I like it more for its visual design than its practicality. Interestingly, this is also one of the few masks that appeared in Ocarina of Time, although back then it served no real purpose besides helping you open a gate.

You receive the Keaton Mask from Kafei, who was turned into a child by Skull Kid. He uses the mask to hide from everyone he knows—but honestly, it’s kind of obvious who he is. You end up wearing a mask that resembles him, which is a funny reversal. Makes you wonder—should the Keaton foxes be wearing a Link mask?

While the Keaton Mask isn’t particularly important on its own, it does set you on the path for other side quests that eventually help you collect all the other masks.

You use the mask to interact with the Keaton foxes, who might just be an internal Nintendo joke—a parody of Pikachu and Ninetales from Pokémon.

When you find one, the yellow fox gives you a little quiz with questions about the game. I think you get a Piece of Heart or something like that—I honestly can’t remember exactly. It’s a bit of a shame that the mask doesn’t have more uses beyond that.
