Hot Wheels Let’s Race became one of my son Alexander’s newest obsessions. I did not know the show was on Netflix until Alex pointed it out and asked to watch it. He maintained a strong fascination with the show for about a month.

Obviously, it is based on the Hot Wheels toy line, which does not have its own story. Therefore, the creators had to invent a narrative based on the toys and other merchandise developed over the years.

It follows a group of kids with excessive money and free time. So they live in a futuristic world populated with cartoonish villains, fast cars, and dangerously elaborate tracks.

I will say this series is one of the most visually stunning animated shows I have ever seen. Screenshots truly do not do it justice. Although I do not watch these cartoons as intently as he does, I admired the animation on my 4K television. I do not know how much money was invested, but it is remarkable that a simple Netflix children’s show has better visuals than most other productions.

Now he is starting to move on from his obsession with the show, but it was an adorable period. He would repeatedly say, “Let’s go Hot Wheels!” Unfortunately, the show is not very educational. It does not teach him anything except perhaps the value of friendship and teamwork. As a parent, you naturally hope for more substance. However, I watched a lot of meaningless entertainment as a child, so I will not prevent him from watching an age appropriate program of his choosing.
