Things I Like: Fortune Teller Baba (Dragon Ball Z)

Fortune Teller Baba is a very minor character in Dragon Ball Z, taking even more of a backseat role than she did in the original anime. As Master Roshi’s older sister and a talented witch, she still manages to appear in the story here and there. Ironically, most of this happens during the Majin Buu saga, when many viewers had long forgotten that she existed.

The only other time I can remember her showing up is to basically serve as a television provider when threats to Earth mess up normal reception. Her magical crystal ball still works, and at least this time she isn’t charging money for it, like she did in Dragon Ball.

Like she did for Grandpa Gohan in the original anime, she is able to bring Goku back to Earth for a single day many years after he was killed by Cell. I still do not understand how Super Saiyan 3 causes Goku to lose all his time, while Super Saiyan 2 would have allowed him to keep the full 24 hours.

She is also the one who takes Goku back to the Other World once his time is depleted, conveniently long enough for Goku to teach the boys the Fusion technique.

She does the same thing for Vegeta once King Yemma decides to use him as a backup against Majin Buu, even though Vegeta had already died fighting him. Despite being in technical danger for a few moments, she manages to get back to safety. She is also one of the very few characters, especially if you include Dragon Ball Super, to exist in the Dragon Ball Z franchise and never suffer an actual death.
