Carvex is the first major boss after the introductory sequence of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it is a decent one overall. It is supposed to be a giant carnivorous plant, but this creature feels far grander and deadlier than a simple Venus flytrap.

Technically, it serves as the ruler and boss of the Fury Green Jungle area, and reaching this point in the game does feel rewarding. I was honestly nervous going into the fight because I had such a rough time with the introductory boss, Aberax.

Thankfully, you are much better equipped this time around. By this point, you have picked up at least one or two useful upgrades, along with your very first psychic powers.

The main gimmick of the battle revolves around those psychic abilities. You fire a blast, guide it through the air, and slow down time to destroy the tentacles Carvex throws at you. As the fight progresses, you have to destroy more tentacles in succession, which can become pretty challenging, especially for players like me who did not enjoy the psychic powers as much as the developers probably intended.

Even so, it ends up being a rewarding, if slightly difficult, boss battle. Defeating the giant plant grants you the ability to fire small energy blasts while using your morph ball, along with a master key that is required to complete the game anyway. Despite that, it still was not quite my favorite boss battle in the game.
