Xelios was the third boss of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the Nintendo Switch 2, serving as the main guardian of Volt Forge. It was far from the worst boss in the game, but it could have been better.

It doesn’t really have much personality to it, and it’s some kind of weird living thing fused with technology. I guess Samus Aran and many others are technically like this too, but it’s a little strange to have a boss with no real goals except to kill you without prejudice.

It’s pretty obvious where you need to shoot your missiles and blasts, but its armor is nearly impenetrable everywhere else. And it definitely makes the mistake of letting Samus hit the weak spots without putting up much of a fight, which doesn’t make a lot of sense.

It’s also got its own range of attacks, which I enjoyed dodging for the most part, especially the one that creates a kind of perimeter circle that you have to jump over. I enjoyed the simplicity of this boss battle, at the very least.

I didn’t find Xelios overly difficult to defeat either. It may have been slightly annoying at times, but it was still a pretty good boss battle. You also get the psychic boots and another master key for winning, so it’s all worthwhile. If I’m being honest, I didn’t use the psychic boots to find some other things I knew were there, but that’s on me.
