Keratos is the major boss of the Ice Belt region in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the Nintendo Switch 2. It is not my favorite boss fight in the game, but I still liked it, and it is definitely memorable for an early boss encounter.

It becomes immediately clear from the start that Keratos is basically a giant spiky ball of icy death. Since I did not have many powers yet, and my Energy Tank count was still pretty low, I definitely took the threat seriously.

My first thought during the battle was that I was glad I am not one of those gamers who tries to complete boss fights without taking damage, because this honestly felt like the first fight where getting hurt did not seem optional.

A lot of the battle revolves around dodging Keratos as it rolls around the arena and waiting for it to slam into an ice wall, which opens an opportunity to deal major damage. I definitely did not waste many of those chances, firing as many missiles and blaster shots as possible.

By the end of the fight, I had survived, and overall I found the battle enjoyable. Compared to the other boss fights in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, I would place Keratos somewhere in the middle tier among the game’s villains.
