Omega Griever is basically the last major boss before you reach the final boss of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. It’s essentially the mother, or just a gigantic version, of all those Griever monsters that kept trying to kill you throughout the game. I was definitely intimidated going into this battle.

A lot of the boss fights in the game had already been pretty challenging, so I wanted to have some kind of strategy. It also wasn’t the battle I expected in terms of what would actually overwhelm me. I remember it jumping between walls and all that, but that part was actually pretty easy to deal with. It gave me plenty of opportunities to land shots while dodging the attacks it was throwing at me.

It was really when it hit the ground that I took the most damage during the fight. There are several attacks that practically require you to use the Morph Ball to dodge. It’s not really optional, and that’s both a good and a bad thing.

This thing also has some serious endurance. Whenever I had an opening, I made sure to unload as much damage as I possibly could. Thankfully, it never felt like one of those boss battles where you spend forever attacking only to shave off a tiny sliver of its health bar.

In the end, though, I found defeating it much easier than I expected. Granted, I was playing on the easiest difficulty, so I’m not sure how much tougher it is on the higher settings, especially the hardest one. If I remember correctly, the reward for beating Omega Griever was the Morph Ball Bomb upgrade that basically lets you unleash a miniature nuke. It was a pretty cool upgrade, even if you don’t really get many opportunities to use it in combat after that point.
