Things I Like: Kara Zor-El/Supergirl (DCEU)

Kara Zor-El may never get as much attention as her famous cousin, Superman, but I was glad the DCEU at least tried to put the character into the universe, even though it was at the very last minute. I feel bad for Sasha Calle because I know she was probably promised a long-term contract, but with the movie universe falling apart, she lost some great opportunities.

She really only appears in The Flash, which has her in an alternate reality where she was the one who went to Earth instead of Kal-El. However, I think the government captured her before she had a chance to really understand what was going on, and I’m pretty sure they used red sun energy to keep her contained and powerless in a small prison. So, the Flash and Batman break her out, and she gets her powers back.

She then works with the Flash, Batman, and another Flash to stop General Zod from taking over the world. With her being Kryptonian as well, she was pretty much their only shot at taking down the rogue Kryptonian general, especially since Batman was apparently not smart enough to think of kryptonite.

Supergirl, played by Sasha Calle, firing powerful red heat vision from her eyes at General Zod (Michael Shannon) on a battlefield in the DCEU movie The Flash.

She also has a very emotional moment with General Zod where she asks where her cousin is. Apparently, in that reality, Zod somehow got his hands on Kal-El as a baby and was somehow responsible for his death. I’m not sure if it was outright murder or just the indirect result of using him as a guinea pig, but nevertheless, the Man of Steel never got the chance to become a man to begin with, which sends her into a justified rage.

But General Zod manages to kill her, and the Flash tries time and time again to rewrite reality to save her because he had an obvious crush on her. It takes him many attempts before he finally realizes it was one of those events Batman was talking about that he simply can’t change, no matter what. It was a bit too sad for me.
