Gamemaster was a decent character on the show.

He was recruited by Shinobu Sensui who didn’t radicalize him by showing him the Chapter Black tape but by exploiting his resentment of older people who didn’t understand his passion for video games.

Kudos to him to be able to drive a car at that age.

His special power was to emulate a video game into reality.

I suppose if he tried to remake Street Fighter II, things on the show wouldn’t be that different, LOL.

His game to the heroes was to get them to play a variety of games against him. So you had tennis.

A fighting game.

And many more. He was way too insane to memorize the trivia game to perfection.

Kurama realizes way too late that Shinobu Sensui told him to emulate a certain game knowing Gamemaster would die if he lost.

And Kurama does just that, with a mountain of guilt on his conscience.

Turns out he needed actual video games to get his power to work. Who knew that the Super Famicom was that powerful?

Shinobu Sensui predicted his death and resurrection as a plan to get Koenma to drain all of his magical energy before facing him.

So he fortunately survives.
