What If…? (TV Series) Season 1 Review

What If...? Season 1 poster marvel studios

What If…? Is one of the Disney+ shows that I was really looking forward to. I know the Marvel comic books have done plenty of what if alternate timelines. But this is the first time that we have seen it done either on a TV show or a movie. The big question though, is it any good?

Zombie iron man tony stark What If...? Marvel studios

Each episode is its own separate story. A mystical godlike being known as the Watcher sees these countless universes which can be changed by a single choice or event that is different than what we saw in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the most notable examples is a zombie like virus being spread during a tragic event originating in the Quantum Realm.

Peggy Carter becomes captain carter What If...? Marvel studios

Some choices can be very minor, such as Peggy Carter being at the right place at the right time. As a result Steve Rogers is shot and too wounded to become the next Super Soldier. So she takes the serum instead and becomes Captain Carter and leads the troops bravely during World War II.

Killmonger saves Tony Stark What If...? Marvel studios

Other episodes can have a bit more unlikely events such as Erik Killmonger being the one who saved Tony Stark after terrorists attacked his convoy in the Middle East. Which ironically prevented him from becoming Iron Man and being a hero in his own right

Ultron takes all the infinity stones What If...? Marvel studios

Honestly What If…? Is the biggest disappointment for the MCU since Thor: Dark World. It had a concept that could have been pure gold for Marvel Studios but instead it’s rather weak. The episodes are too short for their own good, the animation isn’t the greatest in my opinion, the stories can be very flawed and their pacing even worse. The last episode was ironically pretty good, I just wish the rest of the season held the same weight.

Score: C+
