Estarossa was my favorite among the Ten Commandments. There is definitely a lot more to the character than one might expect at first.

We are told that he is the little brother of Meliodas. He has memories as a child idolizing his older brother. Meliodas was apparently the only one kind to him among the Demon race.

He kills Meliodas so he could save him from the curse put on him by The Demon King. Except it didn’t work at all. Meliodas came back from the grave not terribly along afterward.

I thought he had the most interesting commandment power, the Commandment of Love. Which makes anybody with hatred in their heart lose their ability to cause pain in others.

Unfortunately for him, Escanor was immune to his commandment. The Sin of Pride also was the only one strong enough to outmatch Estarossa. My favorite fight in the series.

He’s almost killed by Escanor, but thanks to Zeldris, he’s healed back to full health. Once Meliodas tries to become the new Demon King, Estarossa starts to become corrupt and steal as many commandments behind his brother’s back. Murdering several members of The Ten Commandments while doing so.

We learned that he apparently killed Mael of the Four Archangels back during the holy war. And the archangels Sariel and Tarmiel don’t hesitate to get their revenge. With several stolen commandments, Estarossa manages to narrowly beat them.

Afterward he loses all control and wants nothing more than to kidnap Elizabeth. He remembers when she was a member of the goddess race and was deeply in love with her.

It turns out that he really wasn’t member of the demon race after all, as he was really Mael of the Four Archangels corrupted by a forbidden spell by the real Gowther so the balance would be upset. One of the best twists I’ve seen in any show I’ve ever watched.
