My wife is a fan of the Bridgerton television series on Netflix. Queen Charlotte is a prequel limited series that she wanted me to watch with her, despite me never seeing an episode of Bridgerton. With it being a prequel, I agreed as I should have not been confused.

I had no idea that Bridgerton was set during the reign of King George III. While the show does say it is not a history lesson, they do make the bold claim that the German Queen Charlotte was partially black due to Moor blood. And that it was just a recommendation of her mother-in-law that she was painted to be pale.

I was glad to see Michelle Fairley in a new role after Game of Thrones again. But her role as the Princess Dowager Augusta isn’t nearly as good as Catelyn Stark.

But India Amarteifio is actually very likeable as Queen Charlotte and so is Corey Mylchreest as King George III.

Like many marriages, their own relationship will see many trials and tribulations. I knew that there would be issues, especially as the historical King George III was very well known for being completely insane, especially later in life.

I found it odd that the series went forward to when Queen Charlotte was older. But I found out that she was always part of Bridgerton, and now it made a lot more sense to me.

Outside of George and Charlotte I did find the queensman Brimsley to be absolutely delightful. I’m not 100% sure if his older version is part of Bridgerton or not but when I get around to watching the original series, we’ll see if he’s as good as his younger successor.

Despite me being kind of confused, I did enjoy the Queen Charlotte limited series. It’s definitely made me interested in watching Bridgerton and hopefully my wife won’t mind watching the show again with me.
