Things I Hate: Metroid Fusion (GBA)

I actually had bought the game on the Game Boy Advance a long time ago and I got stuck and couldn’t figure where I needed to go. I gave Metroid Fusion a second chance when it popped up on the catalog for the Nintendo Switch Online.

This was the Metroid game that changed Samus forever. Due to the X-Parasite, her whole DNA was changed dramatically.

And on top of that, the SA-X was her clone that was much stronger than her. But when you first encounter this enemy in the game, you’re absolutely outmatched and cannot win. Which made this Metroid game feel a little bit more like a horror game.

I wasn’t a big fan of the x-parasite being able to regenerate itself sometimes. It was a bit annoying in Metroid Dread but it’s a lot more of a pain in Metroid Fusion.

But I would say the worst thing about the game is its level design. There’s a lot of rooms and backtracking and it’s very easy to to get lost or have absolutely no clue where to go to next.

I really really wanted to give this game another chance but while it does have a lot of merit, its fairly difficult bosses and confusing map system really do hold it down. It’s not a horrible game by any means, but for a Metroid game I was just so disappointed… twice.
