Hunter × Hunter is an anime series I’ve been watching this year and I haven’t enjoyed it as much as its predecessor Yu Yu Hakusho. But nevertheless, I have finished the next season which is often called the Greed Island Arc.

Greed Island has been teased before on the show as Gon and Killua were trying to look for a copy of the game but it’s extremely expensive to get their hands on.

And sure enough, some rich billionaire dude is buying up all the copies. But he needs real Hunters to go in the game as players to retrieve a prize.

And they’re not the only ones hired or playing the game for their own reasons. It’s a high stakes game and dying in the game means you’re dead in real life as well.

I was a little disappointed in the whole Greed Island concept. While some parts of the show are dark and grim, most of the ways Greed Island works versus reality kind of feels like an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh meets Final Fantasy or something.

I was surprised about Biscuit Krueger as she seemed kind of stupid at first but she turned out to be a pretty good little side character.

I think where the season drags the most is the training episodes. Despite the series being kind of halfway over, both boys don’t really get many different powers or become so strong that people fear them.

I was also kind of shocked that the Phantom Troupe members that remain managed to roll up on Greed Island and it didn’t result to much.

But the true bad guys of the season are kind of unexpected, but I did like it at the end of the day. I just don’t know how the leader was so powerful for no good reason.

Also worth noting is Killua getting his Hunters license in the middle of the whole thing. What took a whole season for the rest of the characters, only took him 5 minutes.

Kind of like the last season, it starts off slow but the finale is pretty good and I was very tempted to start the next season immediately. But I saw that the next season is about half the whole episode count of the whole series, and that’s going to take me forever.
