Kami is one of the best later characters in the original Dragon Ball anime. Making him King Piccolo’s good counterpart was absolutely genius.

It even trips Goku up because he believes that Kami is Piccolo at first and yet Kami can easily defend himself from Goku. Which makes little sense since the young Saiyan was able to kill his evil counterpart at his prime form.

But he was the one who got to train Goku to fight Piccolo Junior.

But knowing he’ll actually die if Piccolo Jr. actually gets killed, he tries to fight him in the Martial Arts Tournament. While possessing the body of a human that looks a lot like a certain Austrian that ruled Germany during World War II…

Which tricks Piccolo Jr. at first until he starts speaking Namekian and throws away his advantage of surprise. But his plan was to trap Piccolo Junior in the evil containment wave, which wouldn’t kill Kami because he was strong enough to withstand the spell.

But in a shocking turn of events, Piccolo is able to turn the evil containment wave into the reverse evil containment wave and gets Kami trapped instead.

And he swallows the container with Kami so Goku can’t free him easily.

But during the final battle, Goku manages to save his green mentor.
