Mai was a memorable antagonist in the original Dragon Ball anime.

She basically serves as the only competent member of Emperor Pilaf’s gang.

While the dog ninja wasn’t worthless, their blue imp boss was. I don’t understand her loyalty at all.

She stays on his side through thick and thin and subsequently becomes one of the King Piccolo’s minions that wasn’t a mutated Namekian.

And shortly after the King Piccolo Saga, her character would fade away until Dragon Ball GT, which is not canon anymore. But funny enough, her and her two associates become kids through a cursed wish during Dragon Ball Super. Which she causes her inadvertently to become the romantic interest of Trunks. Which is one of the strangest paths for a Dragon Ball character to take.
