Yajirobe maybe a joke of the character sometimes, but his greatest role was definitely in the original Dragon Ball anime. A joke about him that gets lost in the English translation is that he’s supposed to sound just like Krillin. And when the anime came out in Japan, he was voiced by the same voice actor as Krillin. Just under a different accent to distinguish the two. Their English voices however could not sound further alike.

But he serves as a fat Samurai character that doesn’t seem to be much of a warrior.

Especially for one that doesn’t seem to know much martial arts except for swordplay.

But surprisingly enough, he manages to kill Cymbal, one of King Piccolo’s very dangerous children. That’s very impressive, to say the least. He actually ends up eating him, which is kind of messed up, LOL.

And at the end of the Dragon Ball anime, he ends up meeting Korin, gets addicted to senzu beans, and starts his long path of living with a cat for the rest of his life.
