Master Roshi is an important character in every show of the Dragon Ball franchise, but in the original is where he shines the best. Mainly because his power level is still one of the highest, even at the very end.

Though, it is amazing at the start of the series, you just think he’s some kind of crazy old man with a unreasonably strong love for pretty women.

But his first Kamehameha wave (that we get to see) was so crazy strong and it makes you wonder why he didn’t try this against King Piccolo.

He does get the honor of being the first major teacher of Goku. Technically was stronger than him during the First World Martial Arts Tournament, just by a hair.

He definitely could not have beaten Tien Shinhan in the next tournament but he gracefully gives up the fight once he realizes that the youthful warrior definitely would make the world better.

One of my favorite surprises was the fact that he was once a young man, with hair of all things, LOL.

But one day he actually shaves his head bald like Krillin and helps his master seal away King Piccolo.

Many years later, dying after failing to do it again. He’s brought back to life but that was really the last time he actually stood a chance of defeating a major character.
