Things I Like: Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (Nintendo Switch)

The original Mario + Rabbids game was one of my favorite titles on the Switch especially for the first calendar year of the system. This sequel came out a while back and I managed to get it for a fairly cheap price. I was a little bummed to hear that there will probably never be a third game, because of how this one sold.

Sparks of Hope takes place a decent time after Kingdom Battle, but almost everybody (except Yoshi for some reason) seems to be enjoying everybody’s company until something that threatens the entirety of the world emerges.

The game play is mostly the same as the original game. The turned based battles are still pretty fun.

I really can’t remember if the first game had them or not, but one of your biggest allies in this one are sparks which grant you different abilities. Plus there are new heroes that have different powers. My favorite one was Bowser.

I will say that the side quests of the game and the puzzles were kind of boring. The puzzles were fairly simple to do, but some of the side quests were so long and drawn out and offered little reward in return.

I also enjoyed the boss battles but I will say they tremble in quality compared to its predecessor game.

I spent about 25 hours playing Sparks of Hope, so needless to say I did enjoy the game. It didn’t wow me like the original game and in many ways it’s predecessor is better. I feel like Ubisoft may have gotten lazy in trying and if there is no third game in the future, I entirely blame this French video game company.
