Yamu and Spopovich are technically two different characters in Dragon Ball Z, but honestly, they feel like the same type of goon. I never liked them at all. Even as “bad guys you love to hate,” they just didn’t click. Their design, powers, and overall concept weren’t exactly Akira Toriyama’s best work.

Spopovich had apparently fought Hercule (Mr. Satan) years before, which actually revealed something surprising: Mr. Satan isn’t a terrible fighter, at least compared to regular humans who aren’t Z Fighters. Still, I imagine neither Spopovich nor Yamu would have lasted more than a minute against Kid Goku in his first tournament.

Things got darker when Spopovich made a deal with the evil wizard Babidi, becoming his slave in exchange for incredible power. With that power, he brutally beat up Videl, Mr. Satan’s daughter, to the point where Gohan almost stepped in and revealed himself as the mysterious “Gold Fighter.”

Not long after, Spopovich and Yamu ambushed Gohan during his match with Kibito, stealing his energy and delivering it to Babidi. Their reward? Being told they were now useless and marked for death.

Not exactly the retirement plan they were hoping for. Moral of the story: always unionize.
