Babadi is one of the last notable bad guys in the legendary anime Dragon Ball Z. But he was one of the lamer villains, especially as he was kind of goofy and not a warrior. He was a “wizard” instead, but looked like an alien reject from the Temu design department. Akira Toriyama was capable of much cooler characters in design.

So he has the power to enchant warriors with curses that make them his mental slaves. Such as Dabura, the demon king who seems to be deeply loyal to him, unlike Majin Vegeta who retained most of his independence. But the funny thing is Dabura was about as strong, if not stronger, than Perfect Cell, so outside of Earth, Babadi didn’t need Buu to do his bidding. This was all about pure greed.

If I remember right, I think Buu was sealed up by Babadi’s father Bibidi, so he didn’t even know what Majin Buu looked like. And they thought he had gone bad like a case of eggs that’s six months old in the refrigerator.

After some chaos and the apparent end of Majin Buu by Vegeta’s sacrifice, Piccolo gets one of the coolest “kills” in the series and slices the little alien magician in half with his arm and nails. Such a shame that Buu came back and healed the mortally wounded Babadi back to normal.

While it was kind of odd that Babadi’s whole goal was just pure and nonsensical genocide of all living beings. This idea kind of resurfaced in Dragon Ball Super with Goku Black (Zamasu), but he had a reason for his goals. Babadi’s plans were mainly just to be a dick. There’s no other explanation.

And it doesn’t take Buu long to get tired of Babadi bossing him around. It seems his dad was better at not rocking the boat with their giant pink killing machine. And Buu, despite his limited intelligence, tricks his “boss” and grabs him by the throat to negate his magic.

And brutally murders him. In an anime-only scene, he watches Goku fight Kid Buu from hell with the other dead baddies and brags about Buu’s creation but subtly wishes for the Saiyan born as Kakarot to defeat Buu. Which is ironic since the Fat Buu survives, so Babadi loses again.
