Uub is the last notable character introduced in the classic Dragon Ball Z anime, and it’s hard to dislike the little guy. Though his legacy has certainly suffered, since GT didn’t do him any favors and the events of Dragon Ball Super make his entire existence feel meaningless.

He really reminds me of Nam, who fought in the original World Martial Arts Tournament that Goku competed in during the classic Dragon Ball series. If they told me Uub was Nam’s grandson, I would easily believe it and accept it.

Goku surprises Vegeta by revealing that Uub is actually the reincarnation of Kid Buu. King Yemma even managed to have the child named “Buu” but spelled backward, which is both funny and fitting. Despite sharing the same soul, their personalities couldn’t be more different. Uub is timid and nervous at first, too scared to fight Goku until “Kakarot” purposely mocks him to provoke his anger.

Uub actually has a great deal of power and potential, though he doesn’t completely overwhelm Goku. Presumably, Goku could easily win the fight by going Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2, and definitely Super Saiyan 3.

However, Goku decides to train Uub as his successor in protecting Earth and chooses to leave his family behind to train him at Dende’s Lookout. Even though Goku could easily use Instant Transmission to visit his family, he stays away for long periods of time. This is largely where the jokes and memes about Goku being a bad father originate.
