Pan is one of the last notable characters we see in Dragon Ball Z. She is the granddaughter of Goku, being the child of Gohan and Videl. This also makes her the granddaughter of Mr. Satan, which is quite ironic. Her name is a food pun as well, since “pan” means “bread” in Japanese.

She is introduced almost as a surprise after the time skip once Majin Buu is defeated. It becomes immediately clear who she is once Goku starts talking to her.

Despite how often people criticize Goku for being a “bad father,” his relationship with Pan is actually quite adorable. It’s often said that people make better grandparents than parents, and Goku seems to fit that pattern perfectly.

Surprisingly, Pan is one of the fighters in the World Martial Arts Tournament. Much like in her grandfather’s day, there is no Junior Division, so she ends up fighting alongside adults. With some of the Z Fighters present, there was no chance she would win.

However, she completely blindsides and humiliates a regular human fighter named Wild Tiger. Later, we see her upset when Goku leaves to train Uub, even though he could have easily used Instant Transmission to return after training. A clear plot hole.
