Dr. Briefs is a minor character in the classic anime Dragon Ball Z. As the father of Bulma, he is also the maternal grandfather of Trunks and the father in law of Vegeta. He is extremely wealthy since he invented many advanced technologies, especially the capsules that make storage incredibly simple.

He does not do much in Dragon Ball Z, similar to his role in the original Dragon Ball series. During the Namek Saga, he builds a spaceship capable of reaching the planet where Piccolo and Kami came from. He also creates the gravity machine that allows Goku to train and quickly overpower the Ginyu Force.

He begins building a second spaceship so they can travel to Planet Namek, but they later realize they no longer need it. With the Dragon Balls, they do not even have to wait for their friends and family to return, as they are brought back instantly by Porunga.

While we do not see much of Dr. Briefs interacting with his grandson Trunks, he seems quite happy to be a grandfather. This fits his easygoing personality. It probably does not hurt that he has more than enough money to provide babysitters and staff to keep the entire family comfortable, including his whiny and needy son in law, the Prince of all Saiyans.

He does not do much during the Majin Buu saga, but at one point he is killed along with the rest of Earth, most likely by Super Buu’s Human Extinction Attack. Beforehand he and his wife seem relatively unfazed by the threat of an apocalypse, because they understand the power of the Dragon Balls. Realistically, he could have built a spaceship, left Earth, and returned when it was safe. That would have been my plan if I were him.
