Things I Like: Android 14 (Dragon Ball Z)

Android 14 is one of the main antagonist Androids in the Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13! anime movie Super Android 13!. He’s far from the greatest Android villain in Dragon Ball Z, whether from the series or the movies, but he’s still a decent enough antagonist. For some reason, he reminds me a lot of Colossus from X-Men. I don’t know if that’s just me overthinking it or if that was actually part of the inspiration behind his design.

The two Androids wake up in their chambers and, much like Androids 17 and 18 in the main series, head to a city on Earth to cause trouble.

And just like their canonical counterparts, it doesn’t take long for the Z Warriors to notice them after they cause some property damage. Still, they never feel quite as intimidating as Android 19 and Dr. Gero, also known as Android 20, did during their introduction in the main series.

Android 14 ends up becoming the main adversary for Future Trunks in the movie. And just like Cyborg Frieza, he has to face Trunks and the sword he carries. It’s a little funny because Android 14 is probably a fully robotic Android rather than a cyborg, so you would think a sword would not be nearly as effective against advanced metal as it would be against someone made of flesh.

After Future Trunks goes Super Saiyan, the two have a decent but somewhat forgettable battle. And just like Vegeta’s fight against Android 15, the movie tries to make the scene feel cinematic with a brief moment of confusion followed by the destruction of the Android.
